How the OPA SI PASS Works

Book the date, swap the voucher, and spread the seven sites over up to three days.

  1. Book Your Date

The voucher is for the date you book, and the listing offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The pass itself then runs for three consecutive days.

  2. Swap the Voucher

Recent guests describe exchanging the voucher for the pass at the ticket office without queueing. Follow the instructions on your voucher.

  3. Cathedral and Library First

Start with the cathedral and the Piccolomini Library inside it, where the queue and the crowds build through the day. The last entry is 30 minutes before closing.

  4. The Rest Over Three Days

Each site takes one entry. The Baptistery, Crypt, Museo dell'Opera, the Facciatone and the Oratory of San Bernardino can wait for another day.

The Guide

What the Pass Covers, and How to Use It

Seven sites, one entry each, three days. The only thing missing is the roof.

The OPA SI PASS is the Opera della Metropolitana’s single ticket to every museum site of the Siena cathedral complex: the cathedral and its floor, the Piccolomini Library, the Baptistery, the Crypt, the Museo dell’Opera with the Facciatone viewpoint, and the Oratory of San Bernardino, valid for three consecutive days. The Opera sells it at €16 until 15 November 2026 and €14 from 16 November. On GetYourGuide it is the Cathedral Complex Pass with Audio Guide (OPA SI PASS), from US$22 a person with the booking fee included (checked October 2026), rated 4.4 out of 5 from 3,903 reviews.

What the pass covers

The cathedral is the heart of it: the striped nave, Nicola Pisano’s pulpit of 1265 to 1268, Donatello’s bronze St John the Baptist, and the inlaid floor, uncovered in 2026 until 15 November. The Piccolomini Library opens off the left aisle, painted by Pinturicchio. The Crypt, below the choir, keeps wall paintings from the 13th century, and the Baptistery, under the apse at the bottom of a flight of steps, holds the baptismal font with bronze panels by Donatello and Jacopo della Quercia among others. The Museo dell’Opera keeps the works taken out of the cathedral, Duccio’s Maestà the greatest of them, and from inside the museum you climb to the Facciatone, the wall of the never-finished new cathedral, for the view over Siena. The pass also includes the Oratory of San Bernardino with the diocesan museum.

The Opera says the whole route takes about two hours. Each site allows one entry, so a three-day pass is for spreading the visit, not for returning to the same room.

What it does not include

The rooftops. The Porta del Cielo, the walk through the roof spaces above the vaults, is a separate ticket of €21 that also covers every site on the pass. A guest on the pass this August regretted not taking “the sky tour”. If the roof matters to you, book DEAR GUESTS’ 7:15 opening with the Gate of Heaven instead; the Porta del Cielo guide explains the options. The pass also has no live guide, only the phone audio guide.

The Opera’s price, and what GetYourGuide adds

At the Opera’s own ticket office the pass is €16 until 15 November and €14 after; ages 7 to 11 pay €3 and under-sixes go free. GetYourGuide’s version costs more because the booking fee is built in, and in return you pay in dollars, in English, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Recent guests describe the exchange as quick: one in August swapped the voucher at the ticket office and skipped the line, another found no meeting point needed. The cathedral was “crowded and hot”, wrote a third, “so go early in the morning”.

An order that works

Start at the cathedral at opening time, with the library, then walk down the steps behind the apse to the Baptistery. The Crypt and the Museo dell’Opera, with the Facciatone at the top, fill the rest of a morning or a second day. The Museo dell’Opera is open from 10:30 to 17:30 in November and December. The Crypt, the Baptistery and the museum are not accessible to wheelchair users; the cathedral has a ramp on its left side.
