Siena Duomo Opening Hours
Siena Cathedral opening hours for 2026: 10:00 to 19:00 until 31 October, 10:30 to 17:30 from 1 November, Sunday afternoons only, the Mass times, and what to wear.
Siena Cathedral is open to visitors from 10:00 to 19:00 until 31 October 2026 (9:30 to 18:00 on Sundays and holidays), and from 10:30 to 17:30 from 1 November to 24 December. On Sundays and holidays it opens at 10:00 until 15 November, while the floor is still uncovered, and only at 13:30 from 16 November.
The last entry is 30 minutes before closing, and services can change the hours. Cover your shoulders and knees: it is a working church. The OPA SI PASS, valid for three days, lets you work around the services, from US$22 a person on GetYourGuide (checked October 2026).

The 2026 timetable
| Dates | Monday to Saturday | Sundays and holidays |
|---|---|---|
| Until 31 October (floor uncovered) | 10:00 to 19:00 | 9:30 to 18:00 |
| 1 to 15 November (floor uncovered) | 10:30 to 17:30 | 10:00 to 17:30 |
| 16 November to 24 December | 10:30 to 17:30 | 13:30 to 17:30 |

| 26 December to 6 January 2027 | 10:00 to 19:00 | 13:30 to 18:00 |
These are the Opera della Metropolitana’s hours for the cathedral, checked in October 2026; the last entry is 30 minutes before closing. The floor is uncovered until 15 November: the shorter weekday hours start on 1 November, the late Sunday opening on 16 November. The Museo dell’Opera keeps its own hours, from 10:30 to 17:30 in November and December.
Mass times
While the floor is uncovered, until 15 November, Mass is said in the church of the Santissima Annunziata across the square: at 9:30 on weekdays, and at 8:00 and 18:30 on Sundays and holidays. The rest of the year it is in the cathedral: at 9:30 on weekdays in the Chapel of the Madonna del Voto, and on Sundays and holidays at 8:00, 11:00, 12:15 and 18:00 (18:30 in summer). Tourist visits give way to those services, which is why the cathedral opens late on Sundays from 16 November.
What to wear
Cover your shoulders and knees. That is the rule for every church in Siena; the walking tour listings spell it out and turn away short skirts and sleeveless tops. Jeans are fine; some tour listings turn away shorts of any length, so wear trousers or a skirt below the knee if you are joining a tour. Carry a scarf for your shoulders in summer. Wear flat shoes with grip: the old town is steep and paved in stone, and the Porta del Cielo route has narrow stairs.
The best time to go
At opening time, or in the last two hours. A guest on the pass this August found the cathedral “crowded and hot” and advised going early. From 16 November avoid Sunday mornings, when it is closed to visitors, and if the roof matters, book the Porta del Cielo ahead. With a guide, Tuscan Escapes by Papilio’s walking tour with skip-the-line Duomo tickets times the entry for you; the Siena Duomo tickets page compares the options.
